Cutting Instructions for the Borders

All cutting measurements include ¼ inch wide seam allowances

Important Note: Cut all strips raw edge-to-raw edge (lengthwise of the grain)

You will not have to piece the borders!

Step One: Drawing Diagonal Lines

  1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all the 4 ½ squares ( Wine & Olive Green )

Step Two: Making the Square within a square units

  1. Starting with the center square (C) Multi-floral sew across the diagonal line on the four (A) Wine squares to opposite sides in the following order- top, bottom, side, side.
  2. Trim out the wine squares up to ¼ inch of the seam allowance leaving the large square in tact.
  3. Press the remaining section of (A) wine squares up towards the outside corners of the larger square (C). Repeat this step 4 times to complete the center block.

Step Three: Making the Flying Geese Units

  1. Place two (A) squares on the short sides of the (B) rectangle to form a flying geese unit.
  2. Stitch on the diagonal lines on the wrong side of the (A) olive green squares.
  3. Trim out the olive green squares up to ¼ inch of the seam allowance leaving the rectangle in tact.
  4. Press the remaining section of (A) olive green squares up towards the outside corners of the rectangle (B). Repeat this step 16 times to complete all of the flying geese units.

Step Four: Making the Half-Square Units

  1. Place the eggplant purple and the marbled tan squares right sides together.
  2. Sew ¼ inch on both sides of the diagonal line.
  3. Cut the squares apart on the diagonal line.
  4. Press seam allowances towards the dark side.

Step Five: Assemble the Blocks

  1. Lay out your pieces as shown in diagram one.
  2. Place all the pieces for all 4 blocks on top of one another. This will help you to quickly chain sew all the pieces together.
  3. This block is easy to assemble in three rows.
