History of the Area
On a long ridge that once overlooked Deer Creek and its valley, researchers have discovered evidence of a camp of an ancient Indian tribe. The nomads who camped here around 2,000 B.C. were hunters and gatherers and used this camp periodically throughout the year. Since agriculture was not practiced by the nomads, they moved on after they depleted the plant or animal food supplies in a locale. Burial sites near the camp indicate it was inhabited over a period of time.
In more recent years, a cottage owned by Harry M. Daugherty, the attorney general under President Warren G. Harding, overlooked the valley. The rustic one and one-half story cottage was built in 1918. The President was said to have visited this cottage which now bears his name. The completion of the dam in 1968 created the lake with the park officially opening in 1974
The first Quilt Escape was held at Shawnee State Park in 1994. Quilters from all over Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Indiana, & Pennsylvania met for the first time and have continued to return on the first weekend of November every year since.

What People Are Saying About Quilt Escape...
Hi!
I really enjoyed QuiltEscape last year and am looking forward to this coming November. I was wondering when the information for this year's weekend will be available-besides my mom coming again, I am hoping a couple other family members/friends will come as well.
Thanks,
Carey Steele
Dear Cindy and Drew,
I just wanted to say thank you for giving me a wonderful experience when I attended QuiltEscape 2002. What were the odds of my children picking a getaway weekend for me off the internet that was more than they anticipated for me? Thank you both for also being so flexible with the whole idea of a gift certificate. I have mad some wonderful new friends and I hope to come back again and again and again. You both obviously love doing what you do and it shows.
Sincerely,
Donna Bowman
Cindy & Drew,
As a kid, summer camp was the highlight of my life, hay rides, swimming, chatting and laughing with friends both old and new have left me with lasting loving memories. QuiltEscape has opened that door to the past for me again. I look forward each year to seeing old friends and making new ones as well. Unlike summer camp the food is wonderful and the staff always friendly, and there are no lights out.

Dear Cindy & Drew, wow, what a fun filled weekend. How do you do it year after year? This weekend has become my Christmas present to myself. Please keep up this wonderful escape.

Hi Friends!!
Linda and I just returned from an absolutely WONDERFUL weekend at the Shawnee Quilt Escape. This was the 7th year for this even and honestly, it just gets better and better! The timing always seems perfect...this year especially sew. The weather and the scenery was truly indescribable. We were at Shawnee State Park in the rolling wooded hills of southern Ohio. The view from the lodge was genuinely awesome. The accommodations were wonderful, the food was delicious, the even was well-planned and well-organized and Drew and Cindy Casciato truly made us feel that they were just glad we were there. Best-of-all.....the company of the other quilters was enriching and uplifting. When I was growing up, I never realized grown women were allowed to have sew much fun! One of the women told me her husband considers this her vacation. Honestly, I consider it more like a retreat. When we go to these event, the participating women really are "allowed" to just be themselves. The "teen-agers" come back out to play. Unless you have attended a quilting get-away, you probably have NO idea what I am talking about, but it is really one of the most rejuvenating events you can
imagine...we feed our bodies, our friendships, our creativity, our funny-bones, and our souls. When we return to reality it all looks a bit less "overwhelming". Perspectives have shifted a bit and we know we are going to be "okay" until our next "quilting fix". If you ever have an opportunity to participate in a get-away weekend such as this, do yourself (and your loved ones!) a favor and GO! You just can't imagine the difference it can make!

Thank
you, thank you, thank you. What a beautiful weekend. Everything was just fantastic and I am looking forward to next year already. If you order the weather you couldn't have asked for anything better.
