Linda Huston has been teaching quilt classes for over 20 years in her shop and at quilt retreats. Linda and her husband Dave have owned and operated Linda’s Sew ‘n So for 28 years, where they sell Janome and Brother sewing machines, embroidery machines, and Hinterberg quilting systems.
Linda’s sewing background began as a 4-H member when she was young, and she has loved sewing ever since. Her mother taught her how to sew, and then became a 4-H advisor when Linda became a member, so that she would be teaching her daughter the “4-H way.” Linda’s mother is now 83 years young, and she still works for Linda and Dave in their shop part time.
When Linda took her first quilt class in 1982 she was hooked! She then joined the West Central Ohio Quilters’ Guild in Lima, Ohio, where she attends regular meetings, workshops, classes taught by national educators, and retreats. Her college training as an elementary teacher helped her to better understand that everyone learns at their own pace, and this helps her to teach classes to every level of quilter. The love of teaching and a knack for color and geometry have been instrumental throughout her quilting career.
Linda and Dave live in New Knoxville, Ohio, and were both born and raised in St. Marys, Ohio. They opened their shop in 1982 when a well-loved local department store was closing, due to the retirement of its owners. Because there would no longer be a fabric store in the area, they decided to venture into the fabric business. They added sewing machines two years later, and seven years after that they dropped fabric and focused their attention to selling sewing machines and training all of their customers well. They have always said that “Education is #1,” and are devoted to customer service. After a major structure fire in 2005 that destroyed their shop in St. Marys, Linda’s Sew ‘n So was relocated in Celina, Ohio, where their business is constantly growing.
Linda has designed several quilt patterns and is currently marketing them through her shop. She was thrilled to be invited to teach at this year’s Quilt Escape.
