1. Day and Night with Janet Andrews

Believe it or not, this pattern is not new. It was first published in 1933 and then made easy by Eleanor Burns of"Quilt-in-a-Day". The pattern seems to call for a lot of fabric, but the instructions are included for two additional projects (The Mini Star Quilt and the Spider Web Quilt) to make from cut-aways.

The process is fairly simple - just sew three strips of fabric together and then use the wedge ruler (included with the book) to cut eight "day and night" pieces to form a star. When all three projects are completed only slivers of scraps are left over. Eleanor Burn's book, "Night and Day" is required.

There are several versions of this quilt in the book. We will be doing the THREE STRIP / THREE FABRIC version pictured at the bottom of page 40.

The yardage requirements and cutting instructions are at the bottom of page 42. More can be accomplished in class if fabric strips are cut at home. Make a copy of the "design sheet on page 45" and paste fabric swatches to the drawings at the bottom of the page.
